Project Engineer - Functional Safety

With multiple sites in Shalford, Dunsfold, Warwick and a new purpose-built HQ on its way in Windlesham, the Gordon Murray Group continues to grow with multiple vehicle programmes currently in development.  As a result, we currently have exciting opportunities for Project Engineer - Functional Safety to join our Electronics Team based in either Shalford or Warwick.

Responsibilities:

  • Work under supervision of the Chief Engineer – Functional Safety and Cybersecurity deliver OEM level functional safety work products including, but not limited to Item Definitions, HARAs, Functional Safety Concepts, Safety Goal Validation Plans in accordance with the GME CSMS.
  • Identify and highlight any areas for continuous improvement.
  • Initiate sub-system design reviews as necessary to resolve functional safety issues
  • Maintain pro-active liaison between vehicle stakeholders to ensure effective project communication
  • Initiate and conduct meetings with technical suppliers, third party suppliers, and Technical Partners as required, monitoring supplier progress against plan.
  • Participate in confirmation reviews, design reviews, and verification & validation activities in accordance with the FIP and DVP.
  • Plan and maintain progress in improving personal professional competence.
  • Support the development of development processes and tools.
  • In addition to the above.
  • Responsible for planning and delivery of Functional Safety up to an including start of production.
  • Use knowledge of component supplier base to suggest design solutions
  • Track the development progress and maturity of functional safety concepts. Co-ordinate multi-party activities to ensure synchronised delivery and testing. Implement mitigation strategies when things go off-plan. Use network of experts to help solve complex issues.
  • Present Development status to client project teams, client senior management, project suppliers and internally to Company personnel.
  • Provide technical and project oversight for cybersecurity related developments undertaken by our technical partners and Tier 1 suppliers. Ensure compliance with the GME processes.
  • Ensure designs meet all relevant safety and regulatory requirements, and are formally verified to meet these and other specifications (performance, cost).

Principal Accountabilities:

The principal accountability of the Functional Safety function is to support the design, development, production and after sales teams to ensure functional safety risk is appropriately managed and mitigated in all electrical and electronic systems within GMG products throughout the entirety of the functional safety lifecycle, from Concept through to Production and Operation. This will involve ensuring internal engineering teams and Tier-1 suppliers have a clear understanding of the functional safety concepts, roles, responsibilities, and deliverables required to mitigate the potentially hazardous failure modes. Also supporting the development and continuous improvement of the GME Functional Safety processes.
